So how do we make sure that we are being a living example worth learning from? There are three things you need to be conscious of: 1) am i conscious of God, 2) am I conscious of what I’m doing, and 3) am I conscious of the people around me. Being conscious of those things will help you become the living example that we all need to be. Here are a few guidelines more in depth to show you why you need to be conscious of those things!
1) ” So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” -1 Corinthians 10:31.
The first guideline is to make sure whatever you do, don’t do it for the approval of the world, but for the approval of God. If it does not honor God, then it shouldn’t be done. If God approves it it’s no question is it worth learning from.
Question: Whatever I do, is it to glorify the world, myself, or God?
2) The second guideline is to be conscious of who you are a role model to. Your actions don’t just affect yourself they affect others. Everybody is a role model to someone in someway. Someone is going to copy or take from what you say and what you do.
Question: Who is affected by what I do and say? Are they growing from what I do, or are they building bad habits by what I do?
3) The third guideline is understanding what a hypocrite is. That’s important because you should never have to tell someone not to do what you are doing unless it’s strictly for adults. You can’t tell your kid smoking weed is bad for you, but they see you smoking weed everyday. You can’t tell your peers to stop cursing but they hear you cuss everyday. They are going to assume if you do it then they should do it to. “You cant do this” will only work so long before they say “well, you are so I should to.”
Question: Would I be proud if my kid or admirer does the same things that I am doing?
-Simple questions but hard for most of us to apply to our life. Ask yourself those three questions everyday either in the morning or at night, and those will give you the answer to whether you’re being the example you need to be.
